'Candy game'
The legal representative, presenting evidence, detailed the defendant's actions to the judicial body.
She explained his targets were under-privileged children who were staying at a summer program which he ran.
The man played a "treat game" with the minors, the prosecutor said, in which he would access the boys' rooms when they were preparing to sleep and ask them to consume candy "as quickly as they can".
She informed the proceedings Ruben had played this game with the children "over an extended period", and youngsters had previously become sick the subsequent day.
She explained the defendant had been capable of justifying this repeatedly as the minors being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepson had worries in summer 2025.
The prosecutor stated further: "Recently" his stepson had worries about the activities, justifiably.
"They resolved" to have a look in the man's possessions."
The prosecutor explained materials including infant oil, Vaseline and medical needles were discovered, and his stepchild notified the authorities about his worries.
She explained the man continued to engage in the "sweet game" with six children that evening - July 26th - and they were all ill the subsequent day.
"Authorities" had not arrived by that point," she continued.
The oversight body, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, earlier informed that it was investigating Leicestershire Police's handling of the incident.
Mrs Prior said the minors were unable to walk properly due to being ill, so Ruben's stepson contacted the authorities again.
